Welcome to the South West team update. We are looking at ways to improve the way we feedback to you on what we are doing to tackle the issues that matter to you. Welcome to the South West team update. Here is just some of the work we have been doing to tackle the issues that matter to you.

East Hunsbury Ward

Alleviate parking problems around the Primary Schools

We continue to carry out high visibility patrols outside of the primary schools across the Hunsbury and Nene Valley ward areas. During the patrols we have been giving advice to parents about appropriate parking.

We have been working closely with several schools in the area delivering presentations to the children regarding road safety.

Reduce nuisance around Butts Road and Tesco Mereway

We are pleased to report that anti social behaviour incident data continues to show a reduction on the East Hunsbury Ward. Figures comparing April - November 2010 and April - November 2011 show a reduction of 11.6%, that is 30 fewer victims.

We continue to pay attention to the area carrying out regular patrols. On Sunday 4 December our Mobile Police Station was parked at Tesco so we could interact with shoppers about their concerns in the community.

Nene Valley Ward

Alleviate parking problems around the Primary Schools

We continue to carry out high visibility patrols outside of the primary schools across the Hunsbury and Nene Valley ward areas. During the patrols we have been giving advice to parents about appropriate parking.

Working with landowners to tackle motorcycle nuisance by preventing illegal access to land by motorcycles
We continue to carry out off road motorcycle patrols in hot spot locations for motorcycle nuisance. Between October and December we have issued nine section 59 warnings, given to those using a vehicle in a manner likely to cause alarm or distress to members of the public.

New and Old Duston Wards
Reduce incidents of anti-social behaviour targeted to specific communities

We are pleased to report that anti-social behaviour data in New and Old Duston wards are showing a reduction. Figures comparing April-November 2010 and April-November 2011 show a reduction of 59.9% in New Duston, that is 191 fewer victims. In Old Duston there is a reduction of 30.3%, that’s 132 fewer victims.

Spencer Ward

Tackling motorcycle nuisance across the ward

We continue to carry out off road motorcycle patrols in hot spot locations for motorcycle nuisance. Between October and December we have issued nine section 59 warnings, given to those using a vehicle in a manner likely to cause alarm or distress to members of the public.

Tackling juvenile nuisance across the ward

We are pleased to report a reduction in anti-social behaviour on the Spencer Ward. Data comparing April-November 2010 and April-November 2011 shows a reduction of 26.3%, that’s 219 fewer victims.

St James Ward

Contribute to measures to alleviate parking problems associated with sporting venues
We are currently awaiting a date for a partnership meeting to discuss how to tackle the parking issues, which may include a future traffic management trial.

Address the increase in night time violence at Sixfields

We carry out regular patrols of the Sixfields area as part of Operation Nightsafe. In addition to these patrols we are running an operation across the South West on the run up to Christmas, targeting violence hot spots. The operation includes high visibility patrols, interaction with groups gathering and seizure of alcohol where appropriate. 

On Saturday 17 December we have a mobile police station at Sixfields between 7pm and 10pm so why not come along to meet the team and discuss what matters to you in your area. There will be further opportunities for you to tell us your views including a ‘Have Your Say’ event at Franklins Gardens on Saturday 7 January 2012 between 11.30am and 3pm.

Tackling theft from vehicles across the ward

We are pleased to report a reduction in theft from vehicles across the St James ward. Data comparing April-November 2010 and April – November 2011 shows a 4% reduction, that is 2 fewer victims.

We continue to carry out disruption on our prolific offenders to disrupt them and gather intelligence. During the run up to the festive period we would like to remind residents to keep their valuables out of sight and always lock the door even if you are only leaving the vehicle for a couple of minutes.  

West Hunsbury Ward

Reduce car parking/congestion associated with Hunsbury Park Primary School, Camp Hill and St Lukes Primary School, St Crispins
We continue to carry out high visibility patrols outside of the primary schools across the Hunsbury and Nene Valley ward areas. During the patrols we have been giving advice to parents about appropriate parking.

Reduce youth nuisance in Upton

We are pleased to report a reduction in anti-social behaviour across the West Hunsbury Ward (includes Upton). Data comparing April-November 2010 to April-November 2011 shows a reduction of 25%, that is 118 fewer victims.

 

Delapre Ward

Tackling inconsiderate and illegal parking in Southbridge

As mentioned in last months update, the junction works are due to take place when the work has been completed at Ransome Road. This is expected to commence from December 2011 and includes yellow lines being painted.

East Hunsbury Ward

As the new school term approaches we are discussing how best to contribute to this priority. Part of the discussions will be around the ‘School a Week’ scheme that we have previously used to tackle this issue. The aim of this scheme was to give advice to parents about appropriate parking and enforcement action to be taken against repeat offenders.

Reduce nuisance around Butts Road and Tesco Mereway

We carry out regular patrols of the area as part of our Operation Nightsafe patrol plan. We continue to see low levels of anti-social behaviour incidents reported in these locations. Between Monday 1 August and Wednesday 31 August there have only been two anti-social behaviour incidents recorded.

Nene Valley Ward

As the new school term approaches we are discussing how best to contribute to this priority. Part of the discussions will be around the ‘School a Week’ scheme that we have previously used to tackle this issue. The aim of this scheme was to give advice to parents about appropriate parking and enforcement action to be taken against repeat offenders.

We continue to see encouraging reductions in anti-social behaviour incidents. The monthly comparison report comparing August 2010 and August 2011 shows a reduction of 59.8% in anti-social behaviour on the New Duston ward, that is 134 fewer victims. There is also a reduction of 25.9% in anti-social behaviour on the Old Duston ward, that means 77 fewer victims.

Spencer Ward

Tackling motorcycle nuisance across the ward

We continue to carry out off road motorcycle patrols across the South West as part of the summer long operation to tackle motorcycle nuisance.

We have been working closely with our Partnership Co-ordinator, Pete Staffell, to obtain signage for key sites. We aim to deter the motorcycle nuisance but also to aid prosecution if this remains an issue.

The land owners are also assisting to tackle this priority by blocking access by motorcycles to their site.

We have seen a slight increase in theft from vehicle offences on the monthly comparison report for the St James ward. There has been a 3% increase in theft from vehicles in August 2011, which is one more victim compared to August 2010. To tackle this increase we have carried out high visibility patrols in the area and increased disruption on our prolific offenders. As part of the recent Operation Guardian High Impact Day our Police Staff volunteers were out and about in Sixfields giving motorists advice about securing their vehicles and not leaving valuables on display.

West Hunsbury Ward
