Progress report on St Lukes Centre Project

The good news first:

• Very positive talks with Barratt for the purchase of the site are in progress
• We have plans for the conversion of the buildings which will be sent for planning permission very soon.
• The site will generate income as some areas will be for commercial use including a day nursery for which we have a prospective tenant
• Out of 1600 lottery grant applications we were one of the 545 which passed the assessment stage.
• We wait till December to see if we get through the next stage.
• We will have a public display soon advertised in the local press and on notice boards
  

The less good news:

• We cannot afford to buy the playing field
• We will need to borrow money from the Public Works Loan Board
• The cost will be in the region of ½ to 1 million pounds to be spread over a period of 50 years

BUT:

Within 5 years we should be able to pay for the loan out of income generated from the site at no cost to the community.
